THE EDIT KITCHEN: 6 day work week in which I have to produced a 30 minute documentary.
Five months ago I directed/edited my first documentary “(m)orning” that was released in-stores in the US & ASIA. In between that moment and right now my worst nightmare happened…. again. Mae was on a full US tour and we were slapped in the face with the unexpected. Our whole van and trailer was stolen which included all of the bands musical equipment including $2000 of my personal video/photography gear. I also lost three hard drives which had mounds of priceless moments dating way back to 2007. In an instance I lost all of the (a)ternoon tour footage that we’ve been documenting for the (a)fternoon release. At that moment the story had changed for all of us. Even after experiencing the lowest of the lows, some of the best memories of the year were still yet to come. Four days after everything was swept right beneath our feet we were in route for our Asia tour, which included Manila, Philippines onward to Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya dumping us off halfway home in Honolulu, Hawaii. Honestly it never really sunk in that I was never going to get my stuff back, being so busy left little time to have a pity party. It was the way it was and it was icing on the cake for such a bazaar year.
Everyone flew back to the east coast except Jacob and I. Jacob stayed with one of his best friends that is one of the largest concert promoters in Hawaii. (BAMP) I headed up to the North Shore with a girl named Wina that I met online way back in my high school days on MySpace or a photography site, we don’t actually remember how our digital paths crossed, but the curiosity of being in a totally different place, both young, really far away with a passion for photography helped us stay in contact over the past 4 years. I had $20 dollars to last the whole week and make it back to Virginia. I didn’t let my money shortage get in the way of enjoying Hawaii. At this point in my life I would have called this a trip of a lifetime. I’ve been gone for months, completely exhausted but with an unusually desire to never return anywhere. It is now 5 months later since I left for that tour and since the “(m)orning” CD/DVD was released. I’m currently in production of the “(a)fternoon CD/DVD documentary. It has been a difficult battle to reconstruct a story when most of your footage has been stolen. On top of that I’ve had another hard drive crash which has furthered the burden of this years story. These technical difficulties have led us to make on the fly decisions to make this release a success. The in-store packaging is now complete with just a few more hurtles to jump before you can go pick up a copy for yourself at a music store near you. I’ll be up in the editing kitchen cooking up a good (a)fternoon DVD until February 12. Someone tell me who wins the superbowl and if there were any cool commercials. I feel like I’m still living in 2009. See you soon!
